The Kolkata Municipality has initiated stringent actions against numerous illegal constructions scattered across Kolkata, prompting the Calcutta Police to intensify their search for such unauthorized structures. Directives have been issued by Kolkata Police to all police stations and District Commissioners (DCs) to maintain a vigilant stance, thoroughly investigating ongoing construction activities, the validity of documents, and the municipality's awareness of these developments, as instructed by Lalbazar.

Following a recent building collapse during construction in Gardenreach, a locality rife with illegal constructions, concerns have heightened over the perilous state of several structures lining Paharpur Road. In this area, multi-storey buildings have emerged, seemingly flouting municipal regulations, with interconnected structures such as G+4 housing J470/A and J470/B raising alarm among residents.

Residents have reported that despite initial permissions for G+3 structures, additional floors have been added, endangering lives. The situation, if left unaddressed, raises fears of potential building collapses resulting in tragic loss of lives. Notices highlighting the dangers of such structures were reportedly issued as far back as 2023, yet the perilous constructions persist.
